How To Get Back To Your Business After Falling Off Track

Whether it is a day, week or month, getting back on track with where you left off will take time. Especially if your mind isn’t in the right place. So to get started, here is a strategy you could implement for getting back into the flow of business.

Perform A Brain Dump

Getting things out of your head is a great place to start if you need clarity and direction. If you don't write it down, how will you know if it is important or a priority? This is something we all need to make a habit of doing so we don’t lose sight of the tasks our business needs to succeed.

Set Your Top 3

These are going to be your priority tasks. They will be urgent and important tasks that require you to take action on before you do anything else. When you identify what they are, do it straight away. Procrastination isn’t your best friend; do what you need to do to get in the mood. This can be as simple as breaking down your process step-by-step, giving you peace of mind to take action, or starting with the one that won’t take you long to complete.

Block Similar Tasks Together

This is a great strategy to implement when you have similar or like-minded tasks you would benefit from grouping together and blocking off time to work on. If you did a brain dump of all the things you need to complete, the next step would be to categorise each task into sections you feel align with you and your business work.

Start With The Task Of Least Resistance

Starting is the hardest part, especially when your inbox is full of tasks you need to complete. Some are more important than others, but still, it’s something that requires you to get it done. When you start with a task that is easy to do, it builds momentum and instant gratification. Which leads to you wanting to do more. This isn’t something you should rely on, but it can be a good motivator.

Questions To Ask Yourself: Finding Your Business Work Style

  • What are your most productive hours of the day? Is it first thing in the morning (before breakfast) or after lunch or in the evening when everyone has gone to bed?

  • Where do you find yourself most productive? Is it in a particular place in your home, working from a library or coffee shop, etc.? If you’re not sure, test out places you would like to work and see if it’s a good fit.

  • How long does it take to work on small, medium or big tasks? Have you thought about timing yourself to see how long it takes? This can be a great way to know if a task takes you as long to complete.
