3 Action Steps You Can Use to Achieve Your Goals In Business
When it comes to reaching your ministry goals, having a clear plan of action is essential. Depending on your desired outcome, different goals require different strategies. This is why setting goals that take you from where you are now to where you want to be is important for you and your business.
All you need to do is adjust as you go! By using one or more of these three models: projects, systems, and habits. You can achieve your goal and build your business at the same time. Here’s a look at how to choose the right one for your goals.
1. Projects: An Action Plan with a Clear Purpose
Projects are useful when you have a specific goal you want to reach, whether they're short-, medium-, or long-term. Having a clear plan with defined steps will guide you through the process. When all the steps are done, the project is finished.
Examples of Projects:
Launching a website for your business.
Planning an online business event.
Decluttering your home office.
Projects work for the goals you want to focus on, ideally within a reasonable timeframe. If a goal seems too big, turning it into a project can make it easier to manage.
2. Frameworks: Building and Maintaining Consistency
Frameworks are systems (internal infrastructures) you build to maintain ongoing processes that lead to consistent results over time. They provide a STRUCTURE for personal and professional growth and the framework for long-term success. Unlike temporary projects, which can have a defined endpoint. These frameworks help you establish routines that continuously support your goals, enabling you to thrive in both your personal life and your ministerial work.
Examples of Frameworks:
CEO Days—working on your ministry.
Business Planning—how to seek God on what He wants you to do in business.
Business budgeting and management.
Outreach strategy—your content calendar for your ministry blog, podcast, etc.
Content marketing—how you create a blog post (from start to finish).
Frameworks are helpful if your goals are recurring and you want to build a support system around it for you and your business. By implementing systems, you’re creating an environment that reduces decision fatigue and overthinking the process. When you do get around to implementing the right frameworks, you will find that it is easier to stay consistent and productive.
3. Habits: Small Steps, Big Vision
Habits are simple actions that can lead to your goals, so don't ignore their influence. They are also things you do regularly and over time to help you move forward or towards a vision for your life and business. These habits don’t need to be complicated, but they do require you to be consistent to see lasting results. If you’re anything like me, building a habit that doesn’t align with how God has called you to show up isn’t going to be something you stick to. So I ask the question, are the habits you’re trying to build working for you? Are they habits that you want to build and God wants you to develop?
Examples of Habits:
Prioritise time with God for 15-20 minutes of your day (go on a prayer walk).
Learning a new skill or improving an existing one.
Reading books or articles related to your business niche.
Content creation—writing a blog post once or three times a week.
Daily prayer—develop a relationship with God and learn how to discern His voice for yourself.
Habits work well for goals that need small, steady progress. They can also be fun to develop, making them a tool for growth in your personal and business life.
Choosing the Right Tool for Your Needs
The only way to know if one or more of these tools are going to work for the goals you want to reach in your business is to try them. Depending on your goal, trying one or a combination can help you:
If your goal has multiple steps with a one-off outcome, use a project.
If your goal is recurring and requires structure, set up a system.
If your goal is small and you want it to be consistent, build a habit.
By understanding how these three types of models work, you create a personalised plan for any goal in your business. If you want to achieve success in your ministry, set up the business side or develop habits; these tips can help you achieve the vision God has for you.
