How To Stay Productive In Your Ministry Working From Home

Have A Dedicated Space To Work On Your Ministry

This can be a corner of your bedroom, like me, where you work on your ministry, or a room or space in your home where you can set up a ministry workspace. It doesn’t have to be complicated; all you need to do is decide on the things you need and want—find a desk you like (I recently invested in a Flexispot standing desk—such a game changer to my productivity and overall health—implementing standing breaks into my workday is something we all should do) and a chair you will be comfortable and supportive (especially if you’re going to spend hours in it).

Productivity Tip: To make your space work for you, find ways to organise what you need—whether that is in a small or big space. Organising your workspace is going to help you find things when you need them and help you.

Have A Work-From-Home Outfit

This can be clothes you are dedicated to wearing—like a uniform. Think about comfort. Are you someone who wants to be in their pyjamas without looking like it? Then find clothes that are comfortable and non-restrictive. This will create a balance between comfort and casual.

Fashion Tip: Depending on your style and season, look for outfits that you feel comfortable running errands in if you need to go outside and incorporate a mixture of outfits that will fit your mood. For example, in summer you may prefer dresses, and in winter jumpers with thermal leggings or knitted cardigans over leggings and a t-shirt. If you're basing it off your mood, have items that are freeing vs fitted.

Create Ministry Workday Schedule

Implement Time Blocks

This is a great way to manage your time, especially when you work from home—it may vary depending on what you want or need to do, so be as realistic as possible, and over time you will begin to create a system that works for you.

While there are so many things you can do, when you dedicate a specific and intentional time of the day to work on your ministry, you’re not only increasing your focus but also setting clear boundaries with yourself and others around you. By planning out this time, you will create a space where you can cultivate your calling and purpose without any distractions.

Productivity Tip: This dedicated time creates a sacred space where you can cultivate your calling without distractions, allowing your unique gifts to flourish. Whether they live with you or call you, make sure you set the time you want and can work on your ministry and make it non-negotiable.

Create The Right Environment

This can allow you to function in your unique gifts and talents in ways that you might not have experienced before. Whether it’s with the people who live with you in your home or those who constantly interrupt you with their calls, it is essential that you take the necessary steps to set aside the time you want and can realistically dedicate to your ministry.

Productivity Tip: Make this time a priority, and treat it as non-negotiable to ensure your growth and the advancement of your divine mission. If things do come up, have free time throughout your day that you would want to dedicate to personal time, unexpected interruptions, events or tasks that may come up. You can let those who you know frequently demand your time to only contact you around this time—this will help you set boundaries and build a healthy work environment for yourself.

Find A Schedule That Works For You

One thing I have found is when I set a dedicated time to work on my ministry, I am more focused. For example, my time block is between 10 am and 3 pm. This is the time I notice that I am the most alert and productive with the tasks I need to do in my ministry. Now, while this strategy will work for me, it may not for you.

Productivity Tip: Find a schedule that works for you. This may come from testing out different time blocks throughout the day and seeing what suits you or assessing and looking at the time you can block out or taking a week and seeing where your most productive focus work falls. This may be early in the morning (midnight to 3 am or from 5 am), midday (from 11 am) or in the evening (after dinner/from 6 pm).
