How To Discovery Your Purpose In Life & Ministry

An image of a Christian woman on a journey of self-discovery and growth in life and ministry

One of the things I noticed this year was that I was on a path of self-discovery and growth. Something I didn’t realise until I had a conversation with AI. While chatting, it kept saying that I was on a path of self-discovery and growth. As you do, I took this to God—prayed about it and asked Him to help me navigate what that should look like moving forward.

Around this time I found myself struggling with my faith—Christianity. It was a time in my life when I was making some choices that made me feel misaligned. But no matter how much I consumed on the topic, I still felt lost. This leads me to why I am writing this post. Whether we realise it or not, there are going to be seasons in your life where you question what is real and what is false, good or bad, or wrong and right. Some days it will be clear, and other days you will find yourself in a place of fight-or-flight mode. Nonetheless, choosing to discover God for yourself after years of spiritual abuse and bad doctrines, what should that look like from God’s perspective, not man’s?

If this is you, here is a strategy I am using to rediscover who I am in Christ and what Christianity should look and feel like from a biblical lens, not the opinion of other Christian gurus.

Establishing a Personal Relationship With God for Yourself

Creating a meaningful and personal relationship with God is essentially a journey of self-discovery that every one of us should pursue. It is through this connection that we can experience for ourselves who He is through the perspective of studying His word for ourselves with the aid of commentary bibles—and seek Him daily for guidance and direction in life, business and ministry.

By setting aside time for prayer, meditation, and reflection, we can deepen our relationship and understanding of who He is and how He desires to be involved in our lives. Having a relationship with God for yourself allows us to build trust with Him and rely on His wisdom as we navigate the challenges and joys of life. It also gives us the opportunity to cultivate a personal connection with our Creator—not through someone else—allowing us to discover our purpose that comes from knowing Him for ourselves.

Creating a Plan & Strategy with God: A Journey of Prayer and Planning

When you're establishing a plan and strategy with God, it's important to begin with prayer and end with a plan that you and God agree with. By seeking God's guidance through prayer, we allow His wisdom to reveal the path He wants us to pursue and influence the decisions we make. Combining this with planning, we are able to align our goals with His divine purpose for our lives and ministry. This will help with our sense of direction as we navigate different areas within our life, ministry and the marketplace.

Faith Without Works Is Dead—A Path of Self-Discovery

The verse “faith without works is dead” has become a guiding principle for those seeking more than just religion but a path of self-discovery. It should remind us that our belief system must be personal through the actions and choices we make on a daily basis. Some will be easier than others, but overall we will get a sense of where God is taking us when we do our part and let God do His.

Each step we take towards aligning our life and ministry with the principles God reveals through the Bible will show our purpose and mission—how we’re called to live. Some of us will discover this when we are willing to embrace growth in the areas of our lives and ministries that we have previously been dictated to us by others—knowingly and unknowingly.

With any self-discovery, this process can lead to newfound confidence in self and God as well as clarity, enabling us to take control of our own lives and pursue it the way we were meant to—God’s way.
